Analysis-PDE-Probability

Master Mathematics and Applications – Bordeaux University

Analysis-PDE-Probability

Goals

The aim of the AEDPP course is to offer a solid training in Analysis, PDE and Probability as well as on optional topics such as Numerical Analysis, Scientific Computing, Geometry. This master’s degree is mainly aimed at research careers, in particular doctoral studies.

It is taught by professors and researchers from the Institut de Mathématiques de Bordeaux (https://www.math.u-bordeaux.fr/imb/spip.php).

The main activities include core and advanced courses in relevant research topics on these areas, reading seminars and a master’s stay in a research group leading to the preparation of a master’s dissertation.

The year is divided into three terms. In the first one, three core courses in Probability, Analysis and PDEs are taught. The main subject covered in these courses revolve around essential topics such as harmonic analysis, complex analysis, control theory, analysis of linear an non-linear PDEs, fluid dynamics, spectral theory, stochastic calculus or stochastic optimization methods.

In the second three-month period, two advanced courses are held, the subject matter of which varies from year to year and deals with the in-depth study of research topics in different domains of expertise of ours groups. In recent years, topics such as diffusion operators, scaling limits in probability theory, control of systems modeled by PDEs, fluid dynamics, and discrete and holomorphic dynamics have been covered.

Among the teaching activities, two reading seminars on specialised topics of the Department are also held. In recent years, these seminars have included topics such as microlocal analysis, functional inequalities for diffusion semi-groups, boundary layers and spectral asymptotics for boundary value problems.

The research stay can take place at the University of Bordeaux or at another national or international research group. Students can apply for financial aid from the university for this final stage of the course.
